BIOGRAPHY
Eddie Mejía, a Mexican jazz guitarist and composer, was born and raised in San Luis Potosí, Mexico. He began his musical career alongside pianist Samuel Martínez Herrera. At the age of 19, he moved to Barcelona to pursue higher education at the Conservatori del Liceu, where he studied under renowned professors such as Bill McHenry, Jordi Bonell, and Jaume Llombart. During his studies, he was a finalist for the Extraordinary Award for Interpretation in Jazz and Modern Music.
In March 2023, Mejía released his debut album, "A Moment in Transition," under the Fresh Sound New Talent label. Recorded at Sol de Sants Studio, the album consists of eight tracks reflecting his transition from an academic setting to a professional career. The recording featured prominent musicians such as Masa Kamaguchi (double bass), Ramon Prats (drums), Bill McHenry and Edu Cabello (saxophone), Milena Casado (trumpet) and Magda Garre (voice on Mud's Mood).
Mejía is recognized among the new generation of jazz musicians in Spain. His style is influenced by Pat Metheny, Keith Jarrett, Thelonious Monk, and Ornette Coleman, delivering a fresh and modern sound.
Currently, he remains based in Barcelona, actively participating in the local jazz scene and collaborating with various artists and musical projects. He also leads his own quartet featuring Bill McHenry, Ramon Prats and Masa Kamaguchi.
